Personal Statement

About Me

Professionally, I am an engineer, interested in solving Process and Product Improvement problems across domains. I have a track record of using my skills in Operations Research tools for implementing solutions to these problems.

Personally, I am a nature lover, passionate about the environment, music and food.

Personal Profile

I am an Industrial Engineer living in the Greater Seattle Area in the United States. My work is focused on using statistical, mathematical and analytical tools to troubleshoot and improve product and process quality. I love to work with and solve problems that have a huge impact on the business. I don't shy away from hard work but always strive to convert it into smart work. I can thrive independently as well as in a team environment.

Going Over Data

Professional History

Quality Assurance Engineer, PABCO Roofing products

September 2016 - July 2019

As Quality Assurance Engineer at PABCO, I worked regularly with the Plant Personnel and the Lab staff to troubleshoot and improve product and process quality in manufacturing asphalt roof shingles. I had the opportunity to work on several conventional methods of analysis based in statistical quality control and some unconventional methods such as machine vision for this purpose.

Research Assistant, University of Washington

September 2015 - September 2016

As a Research Assistant in the Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering at University of Washington, I had the prestigious opportunity to work on a research grant funded by the Centers for Disease Control. The objective of the grant was to use systems modeling tools to analyze factors that affect quality of lung cancer screening in community-based lung cancer screening centers. I had the opportunity to interact with medical professionals from different healthcare organizations and publish my research in a graduate thesis.

Deputy Manager - Projects and Technical Services, Coromandel

June 2010 - September 2012

Coromandel is a huge private player in the farm inputs business in India. I worked in one of their large facilities for manufacturing chemical phosphatic fertilizers. As a technical services manager, I worked on troubleshooting process quality issues and reported the key performance metrics of the plant to the top management on a regular basis. I also tracked the progress of key infrastructure projects in accordance to their schedule and evaluated requirements to complete these projects as planned.

Quality Assurance Engineer, Amazon.com

June 2013 - May 2014

I worked as a contract Quality Assurance Engineer at Amazon.com on their Local Register application that provides payment support to small businesses similar to Square Register. I had the opportunity to learn the software development life-cycle in an Agile framework. I also worked on some common tools used to ensure quality and document quality anomalies in software applications.

Discrete-event simulation

Only the Best

This is one of the major skills that were acquired through my advanced degree. I applied discrete event simulation to solve several systems problems. I see a big future for the combination of discrete event and agent-based simulation to enable process improvement in several domains.

Programming for Data Science

You Could Call Me A Pro

My interest in analysis of huge data sets was instrumental in my progress at every organization in my career. I continue to hone my knowledge and skills in this area. Currently, I am proficient in R, SQL and Python libraries for data science.

Engineering Design

A Valuable Skill

Whether it is designing a water treatment system or designing a database for laboratory use or making a video game prototype, I have the skills required to make a quick turnaround on an organization's designing needs. My ability to efficiently read and assimilate information from different domains, makes me an ideal candidate for these activities.

Mathematical Programming

Truly top notch

Mathematical programming is also one of the skills that I built through my advanced degree. I have worked on production plans, meal plans, resource allocation problems and optimal resource usage problems using my skills in this area.

Geographical Information Systems

An Expert

Geographical information system is a platform on which location-based data of traffic patterns and population can be combined to create great value for businesses. I have worked on last mile delivery routing optimization using GIS.

Office Suite

Only the Best

I am known for making the best use of the resources that are available at every organization. Office suite is a hugely untapped resource. I truly understand the potential of a document creator, spreadsheet application, publisher, email client and database manager that can seamlessly talk to each other.

Project Management

Outstanding Quality

Project management is one of those things that can be as simple or as complicated as you want it to be. No matter what your needs are, I have the skills to ensure that every project that I undertake will be completed in its entirety within the given time frame.

Effective Communication

Truly Top-Notch

Be it in academics or in the professional world, my ability to communicate effectively enabled me to understand everybody better and foster good professional relationships. I am well-versed in a variety of requirements such as, a well drafted report, a speech in front of my colleagues and peers or training my team in a particular skill.

Educational Experience

M.S, Industrial and Systems Engineering, UW, Seattle

2014-2016

The name of this degree is very misleading. It should be called an Process Modeling and improvement instead. Pursuing this degree equipped me with data analysis skills, knowledge in statistics, simulation and mathematical modeling, human factors in process and product design. Some of the domains that I worked for are manufacturing, healthcare, user experience, logistics and supply chain.

Certificate in Data Science, UW, Seattle

2013 - 2014

The ubiquity of data in all domains spurred me to pursue this certification. It was a year long certification course that taught me R, SQL, Python, Hadoop and Weka. If my Master's degree helped me understand the principles behind data analysis, this course helped me to use the tools of implementation quickly and effectively.

B.Tech in Chemical Technology, NIT Trichy, India

2006 - 2010

If there's a reason behind why I am able to understand the basic design principles behind any process or product, it is because of the academic rigor of my undergraduate degree. Studying in a premier institute for engineering in India with competitive peer environment enabled me to truly cut across my primary domain and understand problems in engineering as a whole.
